Tips on How to Speed Up a Slow PC

Windows PCs don’t have to slow down over time. Whether your PC has gradually become slower or it suddenly ground to a halt a few minutes ago, there could be quite a few reasons for that slowness.

As with all PC issues, don’t be afraid to give your computer a reboot if something’s not working properly. This can fix quite a few problems and is faster than attempting to manually troubleshoot and fix the problem yourself.

Find Resource-Hungry Programs

Your PC is running slow because something is using up those resources. If it’s suddenly running slower, a runaway process might be using 99% of your CPU resources, for example. Or, an application might be experiencing a memory leak and using a large amount of memory, causing your PC to swap to disk. Alternately, an application might be using the disk a lot, causing other applications to slow down when they need to load data from or save it to the disk.

Close System Tray Programs

Many applications tend to run in the system tray, or notification area. These applications often launch at startup and stay running in the background but remain hidden behind the up arrow icon at the bottom-right corner of your screen. Click the up arrow icon near the system tray, right-click any applications you don’t need running in the background, and close them to free up resources.

Disable Startup Programs

Better yet, prevent those applications from launching at startup to save memory and CPU cycles, as well as speed up the login process.

Reduce Animations

Windows uses quite a few animations, and those animations can make your PC seem a bit slower. For example, Windows can minimize and maximize windows instantly if you disable the associated animations.

Lighten Your Web Browser

There’s a good chance you use your web browser a lot, so your web browser may just be a bit slow. It’s a good idea to use as few browser extensions, or add-ons, as possible — those slow down your web browser and cause it to use more memory.

integrating hrm

Integrating HRM Solutions with third party apps

Current and prospective users of HR management systems have always wondered if and how such solutions can be integrated with third party applications. Lacking sufficient information, most are unwilling to abandon existing HRM systems. This hesitancy is quite normal, although in the final analysis, all they want is a flexible solution that can be easily integrated with their current system.

Because human resource management needs are expansive, more and more human resource solutions are moving to the Cloud, a situation that has led to an increase in the need for new solutions to ease the job of the HR manager. Thus, it has become imperative to get a solution that is flexible enough to enable integration without the burden complex tools or additional costs.

Essentially, integration allows for easy export and import of simplified data from one software to another. However, integrating two or more applications might require access to backend information to ensure a more successful process. For that reason, organizations might fare better with a homegrown solution that is flexible enough to accommodate their specific needs with the assurance of world class quality at their finger tips.

One of such homegrown solutions is TAMS, an award-winning HRM solution developed by SB Tel & Devices, a firm of Nigerian IT entrepreneurs who have a clear understanding of the needs of Nigerian businesses. TAMS has flexible and easy-to-use features that enable seamless integration with other Cloud-based HRM applications. VON provides direct employment for over 300 people and aims to create 1,800- 2,000 jobs indirectly. To manage productivity of its burgeoning workforce, they signed up on TAMS in 2012. The TAMS Editorial team had a chance to speak with Mr. Idowu Adebiyi, VON’s human resources manager.

von appreciates tams

Please introduce yourself, sir.

My name is Idowu Adebiyi, the Human Resources Manager of VON Automobile.

Can you tell us a little about VON Nigeria?

VON Nigeria the foremost automobile assembling firm in Nigeria with core expertise in the assembling of vehicles. VON fully started operations in 2011 having successfully rolled out the first assembled vehicle from there plant in October of the same year. VON automobile has added value to the transportation system and the labour market in the country over 300 hundred staff strength.

How did you hear about TAMS?

I was looking for a solution that will effectively manage my workforce as I had so many issues to attend to at the same time, luckily I stumbled upon a flier which read ‘Manage your staff from recruitment to retirement’. This prompted me to put a call through to the contact and I invited them for a presentation. Fortunately, their response was quite swift and they showcased what they had which really surpassed my expectation, as I didn’t know we had a home-based HRMS company with such capacity.

Before TAMS what was the situation of human resources and time management in VON?

At that time, I had to be chasing people all over the place to ensure they were working. I would follow-up with them to know where they where and urge them to arrive early at work. However, when we purchased TAMS, I was able to get accuracy and no longer run after staff, because when you are late you know there are implications for such issues.

In what way has TAMS impacted on your operations?

The value added of TAMS to us is more of the time management and in life really if you can’t manage your time you can’t manage anything.

What has your experience been with in terms of employee accountability?

The kind of operation we run in VON is about productivity and remarkably, we’ve been able to increase productivity by 30%. Compared to the pre-TAMS era, staff are now conscious of time. Statistics I have shows that they come in early and get to their duty stations promptly, thus ensuring that we can manage and gauge productivity.

Will you recommend TAMS?

Sure I will, I will always recommend TAMS to harness its vast advantage.

Weight Loss Tips

Let’s face it: The rules of weight loss—eat less, move more, treats in moderation— are a drag. And they don’t fit with most dieters’ quick-fix, thinner-by-dinner expectations. Cue diet crutches: tricks, based on scant science, that may speed up results. So if a friend swears that munching on grapefruit gets her into skinny jeans, or a coworker credits ice water for his sleek physique, should you try it too.

  • Cleanse your system

It sounds simple: Drink “body-flushing” liquids and eat little or no solid food. But just because celebs do it doesn’t mean you should.

  • Filling up on fiber

Fiber is not absorbed well by the body, but is also very filling, which makes it a great choice for people trying to lose weight

  • Packing in the protein

consume lean protein and good carbohydrates (like whole grains) allows your body to get the energy it needs without the added fat.

  • Snacking before exercise

A small snack before exercise helps to have a more productive workout since it gives a quick energy boost.

  • Don’t Skip your meals

Eating more small meals may help dieters to quell cravings, though, and it also discourages bingeing later.

  • Drinking lots of water

Dietitians recommend staying hydrated all day long. The Institute of Medicine recommends women consume 2.7 liters and men 3.7 liters daily (about 11 and 15 glasses of water a day, respectively).

  • Constantly caffeinating

It’s safe to boost your energy with a bit of caffeine before a workout, but too much caffeine can be harmful. “It’s a central nervous system stimulant, which can affect your heart rate and blood pressure,” says Dubost. (Keep your daily caffeine to 250 milligrams or less.)

  • Cutting portions

Be your very own portion police. eat meals until you feel satisfied. cutting down on your food portions is great way to eat something more decadent, while still adhering to a diet.

07 Mar Financial Security Tips

financial security tips

Financial Security Tips

Over the years top financial advisers all over the world have built a deep institutional memory of personal-finance wisdom. the advice below lists 8 financial security tips that one should have in mind when safeguarding your personal assets.

Key 1: Invest in yourself

Your own earning power — rooted in your education and job skills — is the most valuable asset you’ll ever own, and it can’t be wiped out in a market crash. Keep your earning power growing through continuous education, training and personal development. If you work in a field prone to periodic layoffs or falling earnings, think about a career change, especially if there’s something else you’ve always dreamed of doing.

Key 2: Protect yourself and your loved ones

Before you acquire any financial assets, make sure you have enough insurance against life’s big risks — serious illness, disability and early death. Most people, young families in particular, are woefully underinsured, especially for disability. When an emergency arises, you and your family will never regret having “wasted” all those annual premiums on insurance you “don’t need.”

Key 3: Borrow sparingly

Use credit only to purchase things of lasting value: a home, education, maybe a car. Pay cash for everything else such as clothing, travel, entertainment and furniture. Even better, take advantage of the credit card company’s free 30-day loan by charging responsibly and paying off the bill in full every month. Do you know anyone who got into big financial trouble because they didn’t borrow enough money? I don’t.

Key 4: Pay yourself first

If you feel you never have any money “left over” for investing after you pay all your bills, try reversing the bill-paying process. Make the first check you write each month a deposit to your mutual fund, money market or brokerage account. Then pay all your regular monthly bills, finishing up with the credit card bill. If you’re having trouble paying that last bill, trim your discretionary spending — but keep paying yourself first.

Key 5: Don’t go for the home run

In investing, as in baseball, those who swing for the fences do hit the occasional home run. But they strike out a lot too, and their lifetime batting average — average annual total return — suffers accordingly. So shy away from highly volatile stocks, Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), buying on margin and commodity trading. Don’t try to time markets, because no one does it consistently well. Use dollar-cost averaging to invest regularly in markets good, bad and lackluster. Have the patience to wait out the occasional (and inevitable) bear markets.

Key 6: Diversify, diversify, diversify

When tech stocks were flying high in the late ’90s, safer investments like bonds, CDs and less-volatile blue-chip stocks were derided as sissy stuff. Diversification was considered boring. But successful investors have always known that any one class of assets — stocks, real estate, bonds, cash — will have its day in the doghouse and its day in the sun. That’s why you’ve got to own all of them, in a mix that’s right for your age, income, family responsibilities and tolerance for risk.

Key 7: Live simply today for a more comfortable tomorrow

Deferred gratification is no fun, but it’s the only way I know to fund your long-term goals — college for your kids or grandkids, that vacation home you’ve always wanted, early retirement, a generous bequest to your alma mater. Take a close look at your current lifestyle, and if you see a lot of spending that is dispensable, consider it found money for the bigger dreams in your life.

Key 8: Give generously to create a better world

Your own financial security depends far more than you may think on the financial, physical and spiritual health of others in your community, our nation, our world. When you share your good fortune by donating your money, time and talent to charity, you help create a stronger economy and a healthier, safer world.

Technology has entirely changed the face of the workplace environment and in the process condemning, as it were, analog systems to the distant past.
