Clothing Hampers

But they should be off-limits to kids: They’ve caused severe eye injuries. “Our patients’ eyes were cut open when the hamper wire came loose from the fabric.

Household magnets have always been a choking risk. But a different breed of magnet—tiny, high-powered silver-colored balls that can be molded into shapes and are sold as “stress relievers”—can be devastating to kids if they’re ingested

Detergent Pods

By now we know the dangers: They’re bright, colorful, and look like something sweet that any kid would love to taste.

Button Batteries

home security tips

Home Security Tips

Home security has been an issue Nigerians have been facing for a long time. here are some security tips to follow so that we can keep their homes safer.

  • Compounds surrounding your home should provide two functions. Firstly create a physical barrier to prevent intrusion and secondly create a visual obstruction to stop anyone observing activities within the ground floor of your home, garden and car park.
  • Trees and shrubs provide a good barrier but it is important that they do not become overgrown. All foliage should be pruned so as not to provide an easy means to access your compound or a means to hide intruders or devices within the compound.
  • Compound gates should be properly secured and all notices indicating your identity should be removed.
  • Install CCTV facilities around your home. They deter criminals and aid police investigation in the event of any breach. They are very cheap.

  • Where security locks are provided, they should be secure at all times, especially overnight or during periods of absence.
  • Good quality locks should be fitted to all access doors.
  • All windows and glazed areas should be obscured by blinds or curtains, which should be closed at dusk and lights should not be switched on within rooms until the curtains have been drawn.

  • A safe haven is an area that your family and yous should retreat to in the case of a perceived incident within the grounds of your home. It is designed to provide a small area for use up to a period of approximately 2 hours until the police or other security force can respond and check the safety of your home and compound.
  • Designate a small safe area within your home that can be secured internally to prevent access from the rest of the house should an intrusion take place. This should be secured by means of a security lock leading to the area immediately outside the safe haven. This should be readily secured overnight or in cases of an emergency.Within the safe haven the following should be available during an  emergency:
  • Toilet Facilities
  • Bedding
  • Fresh Water
  • Candles, matches, flashlight
  • Telephone facilities with a list of emergency numbers
  • Extra batteries
  • Medical/FirstAid kit
  • Short term emergency food supply
  • Fire Extinguisher
  • Ensure that phone numbers of the local Police Division is known to all your household.

  • During the hours of darkness, light the exterior of your home with courtesy type lighting especially close to the areas of external doors.
  • Always have reserve lighting available within the home in case of power cuts.
  • Never switch an internal hall light on prior to answering a call at your door. If a generator is available, ensure that external lighting is provided
    during a power cut.

  • Check visitors before opening compound gates or external doors. If in doubt, do not open them.
  • You should ask friends and relatives to let you know in advance that they will be calling at your home so that you can inform your family and security staff to expect them
  • Arrange fixed times for workmen to call and ensure that their identity is checked on arrival. Do not leave workmen alone in your home without supervision .
  • Consider keeping a dog – a barking dog will alert you to strangers!
  • Trusted and Properly Vetted Private Security Guards provide an outer layer of security to restrict vehicular movement around the area of your home, particularly during the hours of darkness. This is useful in preventing strangers getting access close to your home.
  • If you have a private security guard at your home it is important that they should be fully aware of any security procedures and policies that are in place. To ensure that this is the case, you should provide instructions to them that leave no ambiguity in the security duties and procedures that are to be carried out i.e. dealing with unexpected callers or patrolling around the property.
  • Where domestic staff or private drivers are employed at your home, you should ensure that they are fully aware of the security arrangements and procedures that are expected of them. In such cases the contents of this booklet should be fully explained to them.
  • Where new domestic staff or drivers are to be employed, past references and backgrounds should be checked out prior to employment.
  • Before engaging domestic staff (private security, nannies, cooks, drivers ( etc) contact your Divisional Police Officer to assist in conducting security vetting, capturing their biometric and undertaking criminal record check .
  • Never trust domestic staff as the more you trust them, the higher the risk of compromising your personal security and that of your family.

employee compensation

Employee Compensation

Employees are invaluable assets for every organization, regardless of type or size. Therefore, ensuring their welfare and engagement can make them more productive and less likely to leave the company.

As a matter of fact, this is not only an internal consideration but also a competitive one because securing and retaining top talent is akin to securing and retaining customers, where effectively identifying the appropriate target and sustaining that relationship lowers long-term costs and increases brand value.

One of the key instruments in attracting and keeping employees is creating an effective compensation package. Thus, compensation must be both competitive and well-designed to meet the needs of the employee. Instructively, though, employee compensation goes beyond dolling out cash. Other forms of remuneration should be identified, such as sponsored vacation, cinemas, dinner with friends or family, amongst many others. Naturally, someone who is appreciated tends to do more and possibly surpass the previous record; which in turn will most likely encourage other staff to toe the line.

Cash compensation can be a two-edged sword if it not managed properly. On one hand, a high base salary and a lucrative benefits package can help an organization keep and retain high-quality employees. On the other hand, high levels of compensation create high overhead for the company. In addition, attracting employees purely through offering high levels of compensation has disadvantages. For instance, such employees may have little attachment to the fundamentals of the job and may leave as soon as they find a better offer.

Therefore, companies need to find a balance when creating a compensation package to attract quality employees and keep overhead low. To identify this balance, companies must look at the structure of the wages within the organization, the compensation common in their industry, as well as their strengths and those of their competitors. By looking at these factors an organization can attract the employees it needs to maintain a competitive advantage and keep employee turnover low.

General Computer Tricks

general computer tricks 6

Many hardcore computer users might think themselves above learning new tricks, but there’s always new things to learn that will help improve your skills. Our bet: you will find at least one useful thing here that you didn’t know before.

Windows hidden “god mode” folder Windows offers a centralized Control Panel for all of the OS settings, which makes it easy for users to tweak everything from desktop background to setting up a VPN. To enter this mode, create a new folder with this exact name (copy and paste it): God Mode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. The folder icon will change to a Control Panel-style icon, and you will be able to jump in and change all kinds of settings. Note: Don’t try this on Windows Vista 64-bit as it’s known to cause a reboot loop.

other computer tips are as follows :-

  • Use Problem Steps Recorder: This handy tool automatically records any mouse clicks and takes screenshots for you. If you need tech assistance with your computer, go to Run by typing Windows + R, and then type “psr.” Use the tool and by the time you are finished, you can send this information, neatly compiled automatically, to the person helping you with the issue. It will make the process of finding the problem much easier for them, which means you will be able to get your system up and running faster.
  • Find/Delete large files wasting space: A handy tool called WinDirStat (Windows Directory Statistics)can be used to easily find which files and folders are taking up the most space on your drive. From there, you can delete them and open up a ton of storage space.

  • Reduce the number of programs running at startup: If your PC is taking too long to boot, it’s probably because you have far too many programs running at startup. Reducing this is easy, it will make your PC launch noticeably faster and lighter upon first load. To change the items running at startup, go to Run using the hotkey Windows key + R, and type “msconfig.” A small window will appear (see the screenshot below), select the Startup tab. From here you will be able to turn off many startup programs, which can shave several seconds (or minutes) off your boot time. (Note Windows 8 has moved this functionality to the Task Manager). Try to make sure you research what you are turning off as some processes might be needed by third party programs or drivers you have installed.

  • Cloud backup important files: If you’re working on a critical paper for school, work, or any other major project, make sure you are backing up the file not just locally. You can use services like Dropbox, Google Drive, or any of the other popular cloud storage solution which will do the legwork for you on the background. Of course, you can also throw the files on a thumb drive or external HDD just to be safe but backing up to the cloud can be done seamlessly which is twice the advantage.
